Ellagic Acid is a polyphenol extracted primarily from the pomegranate skin. The function of the Ellagic acid is to protect the pomegranate from UV radiation and microorganisms.
Ellagic acid has a strong antioxidant action that neutralises cell deterioration caused by free radicals which are in turn generated by contamination, tobacco smoke, UV light or IR radiation, all of which accelerate skin ageing. Its most significant property however, is that it has a large illuminating and homogenising effect on skin tone owing to its inhibitory action against melanogenesis. This is particularly indicated for yellowing skin and for people who smoke.
It is also protects collagen and elastin against enzymatic degradation thereby providing a considerable anti-premature ageing effect. Ellagic acid is encapsulated in INdermal's Deep Delivery System (DDS) where it is specifically delivered to the deepest strata of the epidermis for a more intense and precise effect on the structures and cells located there. The use of DDS enables up to twelve times the amount of active ingredient to reach the interior of the skin compared to when applied freely.
