Varicose veins and spider veins are superficial veins
that often look lumpy and are dark blue or purple in
colour. Generally affecting the legs (mainly the calf and
sometimes the thigh), they often need surgery or laser
treatment. However, symptoms can be alleviated by
using actives that increase micro-circulation and Vitamin
K (before its ban).
Heavy legs are due to poor circulation and are often a result of flying, sitting in the same position for too long and excessive weight gain. This is why you are encouraged to exercise your legs during a flight. Again, actives that stimulate blood circulation are beneficial here.
Bruising is caused by local leakage of red blood cells into the skin following an injury. Bruising is often a reddish-purple discoloration that changes to a greenish- yellow as the body metabolises the blood cells.
